Directors Notebook...

There are some shows that continue to teach you long after opening night, and Million Dollar Quartet is one of them.

Returning to this piece at Peterborough Players reminded me that its greatest strength isn't the iconic music or the larger-than-life personalities, it's the humanity underneath. These are people standing at crossroads, reaching for connection, legacy, love, and belonging. Every time I revisit this show, I find myself searching for even more authenticity, more heart, and more radical truth.

I feel incredibly fortunate that my introduction to Million Dollar Quartet came through Hunter Foster. Learning this piece from someone who helped shape it from its earliest days has been a gift that continues to influence my work. Hunter's commitment to honest storytelling--to finding the humor, vulnerability, and humanity beneath the spectacle--has become a touchstone for how I approach this musical every time I return to it.

And what a joy it was to spend the summer in Peterborough. Places like Peterborough Players remind us why regional theatre matters so deeply. Night after night, audiences gathered to laugh, sing along, and spend two hours together in a room filled with music and joy. The joy was so infectious, we added an additional performance! In a world that often feels increasingly disconnected, there is something profoundly meaningful about creating an experience that invites people to celebrate together.

I'm leaving this production with immense gratitude--for this company of artists, for the Peterborough community, and for a show that continues to reveal new truths every time I have the privilege of directing it.
